Firefighting

Becoming a fire fighter is one of the most challenging and noble choices that a person can make. There is no doubt that this job is one of the most difficult out there, but the rewards that these men and women reap are well worth it. By keeping their communities safe, fire fighters earn both a sense of well being and a great amount of respect from the people that they protect.

Firefighting Equipment

Like firefighting supplies, there is some more mechanical equipment that firefighters must have with them when on the job. Some of these instruments are used to keep the firefighters safe, others are used to aid them in their job.

Firefighting Gloves

While firefighting gloves aren't going to save a firefighter from grievous injury during a blaze, protecting their hands can save them a lot of grief. If their hands are cut and blistered then they won't be able to complete their job to the best of their abilty.

Aerial Firefighting

Oftentimes a firefighter will go into a situation where a ground rescue or other mission is not possible. In this instance it is necessary to mount an aerial attack, going at the fire from a higher vantage point instead of fighting the fire from the ground.

Firefighting Nozzles

There are four main types of firefighting nozzles. Each are used for a different purpose and in very different situations. There are other nozzles used, but the most common nozzles are: automatic, selectable gallonage, constant gallonage, and low pressure/specialty nozzles.

Firefighting Supplies

There are several items that a firefighter should have with them at all times during any dangerous situation. These supplies can either prevent injury, help to subdue the fire, or can allow the firefighter to extricate themselves from a situation.
